The famous miracle that the Bible records of Jesus Christ healing a man who had been disabled for 38 years is a great motivational story. Why? It shows how important it is for us to act on our faith rather than just passively sitting back and wallowing in discouragement.
Before Jesus performs the miraculous healing, he asks the man: "Do you want to get well?". That seems like a silly question with an obvious answer, at first. Of course the man wants to get well; who wouldn't? But the man had grown so accustomed to being disabled and so discouraged by his circumstances that he responds to Jesus' question with excuses about why he hasn't pursued healing wholeheartedly before.
Jesus replies: "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk." With those words, Jesus spoke the man's healing into existence. But it wasn't just physical healing; it was also spiritual healing, because he gave the man the encouragement he needed to actually exercise his faith and do something to actively participate in the healing process.
Sometimes it's not God's will to change our circumstances, but sometimes he is willing to do so -- and is waiting to see if we'll decide to "get up" by placing our trust in him and doing whatever we can to pursue healing.
