Vivid colors in your dreams have spiritual significance because each color has specific meanings that God or his messengers—angels—may use as symbols in miraculous dream messages.

Color meanings may represent either your personal connections with certain colors or the universal meanings of those colors. Here is how to interpret the meanings of colors that appear in your dreams.

Notice Main Color

Sometimes you will not see any colors in your dreams. You may dream only in black and white. But often, colors do appear in dreams and when one color especially catches your attention, it may represent something about the dream’s message.

If a certain color is outstanding in one of your dreams such as serving as a filter for all the images you see or highlighting someone or something playing a key role in your dream, then that color is likely a symbol of the dream’s message to you.

How Do You Feel When You Wake Up?

Since colors often represent emotions, it is important to make note of your emotional state immediately after waking up from a dream. Were you feeling sad, angry, or afraid? Were you peaceful, happy, or excited? Keep your emotions in mind as you try to interpret your dream since they will usually correspond to any colors you notice in the dream.

Difference Between Vivid or Dull Colors

It is also important to pay attention to how strongly or weakly the colors that you see in your dream appear. Strong, vivid colors are associated with positive thoughts and feelings, whereas dull, muted colors are linked to negative thoughts and feelings.

Consider Personal Connections

Record as much as you can remember about each dream as soon as you wake up. Go through the information you have recorded and ask yourself what personal associations you have with the specific colors that you dreamed. Whatever links the colors have to your waking life can act as clues to their meanings in your dream.

For instance, your family's beloved pet may be an orange cat or a brown dog, so dreaming about orange or brown may be associated with some thoughts or feelings that your pet triggers in your mind. Or you may drive a blue car, and dreaming about that same shade of blue could indicate a message about what direction your life is going in right now. Dreams that relate to your childhood may feature an object that is the same color as a toy you treasured growing up, such as a red bicycle. Dreams about a specific friend or family member may involve that person's favorite color or a color of clothing that he or she chooses to dress in often.

Look at Universal Symbolic Meanings

Beyond whatever personal connections you may have to the colors in your dreams, also colors have universal symbolic meanings that have developed throughout world history and cross cultural boundaries.

Some believe that God or angels may communicate profound spiritual messages to you in the form of colors if they believe that you will pay attention to messages in that form. Colors are a beautiful, elegant way to represent deep ideas in the spiritual realm. Others believe that angels work on assignments that correspond to the energy in light rays of different colors, and light itself (which is comprised of many colors) symbolize God's enlightenment for people.
