Saying Goodbye

Friday April 12, 2013

About.com is retiring the angels and miracles topics on its network, so I won't be able to serve as your guide here any longer. But I wanted to express my gratitude to all of you for being a part of this community, and to let you know that you can still visit this site anytime to read the archived articles.

Even though there are many more articles about angels and miracles that I'd planned for the future and won't get to write, the material that's archived can at least serve as a healthy introduction to both topics. I'm glad that so many of you have let me know that God used the articles I've already produced to give you the information and inspiration you wanted. All of the hard work I've poured into this site for the past two years has been to give you all the best content possible to enrich your lives, so it means a lot to know that I successfully did that.

If this site is revived at some point in the future, I'd love to return to serve as your guide again. No matter what, though, I'll still be working on projects to inform and inspire (you can still read fresh articles from me at Crosswalk.com, and I plan to publish a novel called Dream Factory that features guardian angels sometime later this year). You can continue to connect with me through my website or my Google+ profile.

Most of all, I want to encourage you to keep learning all you can about angels and miracles, because they provide important glimpses of God's love at work in the world. Whenever you think about angels or miracles, please remember that you are loved!

Thanks and Blessings,

Pleasure and Pain

Wednesday April 10, 2013

The memorable encounters that both St. Francis of Assisi and St. Teresa of Avila had with angels inflicting pleasurable pain on them show how closely these two seemingly opposite feelings are actually connected when it comes to experiencing God's love. Love hurts because it changes us, but it's worthwhile to endure the pain because the pleasure of pure love is more powerful than anything else we can experience.

Too often, we numb ourselves against feeling the emotions God wants us to feel in order to grow. Allowing ourselves to feel means experiencing both pleasure and pain. God himself feels the full range of emotions in relationship with us -- his creations, whom he loves deeply. God could choose to avoid the pain of loving us, but thankfully, he doesn't.

How is God calling you to experience love fully right now? Do you sense his encouragement to open up to him, so you can receive more of his love? Do you sense his urging to let his love flow through you to other people who need more love in their lives? Saying "yes" can hurt, but it will always be worthwhile!

Fire That Heals, Not Burns

Tuesday April 9, 2013

When the prophet Isaiah saw a vision of seraphim angels praising God in heaven, he was afraid at first when an angel broke into the earthly dimension and headed straight for Isaiah with a fiery coal. The closer Isaiah got to holiness, the more aware he became of his own shortcomings. Isaiah was afraid of heaven's fire burning him up in judgment.

But the angel's coal didn't burn Isaiah; it healed him. The angel used the coal to deliver a stunning message of grace to Isaiah, and to strengthen him to start serving God in fresh ways.

This story shows that we can approach God and his angels with the confidence that they'll meet us where we are and help us move on from there. We don't need to try to attain a certain level of holiness before reaching out to God and the angels; we only need to open ourselves up to the pure, fiery love of heaven and trust that it will reach out to us!

Burning Passion

Monday April 8, 2013

The angels who are closest to God -- the seraphim -- literally burn with the fire of passion for God, so they appear with flames of intense, fiery light. Their passionate love for God compels them to worship God constantly in heaven, and the radiant light that their passion produces can overcome any darkness.

Seraphim angels remind us that pure love for God is passionate love. When we allow passion for God to completely envelop us -- as it does with the seraphim -- it will produce a fire in our lives that can inspire and motivate us to worship God constantly, in every situation. And the more we worship God, the more we can draw closer to him and experience that wonderful love he offers not just his highest-ranking angels, but every one of us!
