Many people believe that Mary (known popularly as either Saint Mary or the Virgin Mary) is queen of the angels in heaven. Mary enjoys a special relationship with the angels, believers say, because she was a link between God and humanity, as angels are.
On Earth, Mary lived a simple and humble life. I was struck by how primitive her home was when I visited Nazareth, Israel, this past summer and saw the ruins of where Mary lived with her son Jesus Christ, her husband Joseph, and her other children. Essentially, the home was like a cave, and quite a small one, too.
Mary's life was marked by extraordinary faithfulness. She was always ready to say "yes" to God -- no matter what her obedience might cost her -- because of her love for Him. Now, in heaven, God has rewarded her for her faithfulness with an awesome assignment as leader of the angels!
God promises in the Bible to reward our faithfulness, too, if we humbly serve on Earth. James 4:10 says: "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you." May we, like Mary, always be ready to say "yes" when God has an assignment for us.
